Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

Tomorrow is the beginning of our next community themed week, The Poetry of Dr. Seuss. There are two open slots left for the week if anyone finds themselves with some extra time this weekend, as well as the Tongue Twister Challenge which closes at the end of today.

Note that there will be a separate 'Comm Announcements' post coming soon regarding updates to POETREE's solo Hosting guidelines and the Community Calendar.

Our sister comm poetry is currently running low on weekly Poetry Hosts; please consider volunteering here.

Plunge is currently accepting short stories, poetry, and nonfiction focusing on queer women for the upcoming August issue with the theme of 'Chase(d)'. Submissions close the week after next, i.e. June 10th. See their submission guidelines for more details.

Speaking of Plunge, Issue #1: Women and Mythology is live and available through their website. For those unfamiliar with the magazine, check out Meta: Origins and Plunge Magazine, which founder and editor ailelie wrote last year as part of poetree's Spotlight on Editors & Community Moderators community week.

I started reading Louise Glück's The Wild Iris this week because I finally found it in a used bookstore. (I was trying so hard not to spend any money for the 15 minutes I was in there. And then.) The beginning is kind of eh, but I really enjoyed "The Red Poppy", one of the "Matins", "Clover", and "Heaven and Earth" this morning as I had my tea. <3
