Our first full week back from hiatus (Mon., 5/27, - Sat., 6/1) will be a multi-Hosted week focusing in depth on the poetry of Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. Please comment on this post if you would like to participate - you are equally welcome to claim a specific day to Host yourself, or to look for collaborators to co-Host a day as group. Specific days are available on a first-come, first-served basis; specific poems can be the focus of multiple days.
What kind of content might you post? We welcome content in any medium that translates, transforms, or otherwise revitalizes how someone might (re)visit one or more of Dr. Seuss' poems. Feel free to browse the tags of previous multi-Hosted weeks, such as Poetry Complements and One Poem In Depth - Julia Stein's "Downtown Women" for ideas, or ask the admins directly - we're happy to help.
Although the full written text of every Dr. Seuss poem remains under copyright and cannot be posted directly to the comm, fair use permits (and we enthusiastically encourage) quoting specific lines; hyperlinking to full text posted elsewhere; embedding audio or video performances of a particular poem's full text (such performances count as transformative works in their own right); creating illustrations for the text; writing and posting poetry in the style of or otherwise inspired by particular Dr. Seuss poems; or otherwise translating all or part of a particular poem's text into a different language or medium other than typed English.
Monday, May 27th:
poetree_admin: Climbing the Poet's Tree Challenge #33 ('Write a poem in the style of Dr. Seuss using original Dr. Seuss-inspired art by Tod Wills/
djinni as prompt'; deadline Saturday, June 1st 1:00 PM EST)
Tuesday, May 28th: [Open Slot]
Wednesday, May 29th:
jjhunter,
kate_nepveu, et al.: audio recordings ('Fox in Socks' excerpt, additional poem(s) to be determined)
Thursday, May 30th:
alee_grrl: graduation rituals and 'Oh, the Places You'll Go!'
Friday, May 31st: [Temporarily Reserved]
Saturday, June 1st:
bookblather: meta ('How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and 'Oh! The Places You'll Go')

Date: 2013-05-20 09:51 am (UTC)Articulating what specifically about those poems creates the meaning they have for you would be a wonderful piece of content; I think you might surprise yourself by how close meta about 'why' is to laying the foundation for lively discussion of the mechanics of 'how', aka talking about them as poems. ('Coherently' is something you're more than welcome to ask for help with - if you like, one or both of the admins are happy to work with you on refining a preliminary draft prior to your posting date.)
Do you have a preference for which day you post?
