Sunday Picnic Under Radiant-Shaking Leaves

Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

In light of two upcoming weeks of classically-themed & ancient poetry, our next round of Climbing the Poet's Tree challenges going up later today will focus on writing & recommending contemporary poems with ancient themes.

Our Community Calendar schedule for October has several open slots for volunteer hosts. If you are interested in potentially hosting a week that month or the following, please sign up - the admins will check in with you the week before to confirm you're still available, and are generally available to help you brainstorm or refine what you'll post on request.

My absolute favourite resources for modern poetry is the Bloodaxe trilogy Being Alive/Staying Alive/Being Human. I will have a rifle through and see if I can dig out relevant stuff!

News from Comm Affiliates

Our sister comm poetry is currently running low on weekly Poetry Hosts. Sign up now to share a few favorite poems for a week sometime this month or next.

The second issue of Plunge Magazine, Chase(d), is now live and publicly available online. Poetry submissions for issue #3 will be accepted until Nov. 16th.

Poetry should address the theme "Over and Under the Sea" and possess a genre (e.g., steampunk, cozies, hard sf) aesthetic. Poetry may be in any form (free verse, blank verse, sonnet, pantoum, etc).

The Pod Together 2013 challenge is now complete, with a total of 69 projects. Congratulations to all the participants, official and unofficial alike!
