Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

I wrote a brief review of Linda Chase's last three volumes of poetry, with a sample poem (already online via the Guardian) and a link to more poems on Chase's website:

Another hexagram poem.

(BTW, in case it's not clear: the formal conceit in these is that, reading down the hexagram, each yang line corresponds to a couplet with so-called masculine ending lines, and each yin is one with feminine endings.)

I forgot all about cuteoverload.com's Friday Haiku tag. This week's was especially cute.

I thought primeideal chose a good variety of styles and themes. As poetry is such a personal taste, I thought this was a constructive approach (although as the maximum turnaround for any one host is a week that should mean there's variety anyway). :-)

I'm not well at the moment but I'm still writing. :-)

I also recorded a found poem, complete with random Capitalisation, from a sign on a multi-storey car park:

"In the interest of Safety
Children must be
accompanied by an adult
at all times
on this Car Park"

:-D

Sorry you are not well at the moment. I hope that things improve for you soon. Glad you are still writing. :) Your found poem is fun.

I've been reading more anthologies and running across more poems to enjoy. Three new discoveries were "Proverbs from Purgatory" (http://blog.ellensteinbaum.com/2009/09/where-poem-comes-from-lloyd-schwartz.html), "A Contribution to Statistics" (http://www.panhala.net/Archive/A_Contribution_to_Statistics.html), and "Incantation" (http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/incantation/).

Recently I have posted "Ohana," "Getting a Room," "Light Above Water," and "The Wingdresser's Kitchen."

Also all 16 poems from my mid-month fishbowl about Monster House have been sponsored and posted over on LiveJournal. Use the "poem" tag to find them.

"The Wingdresser's Kitchen is the only one I've had a chance to read yet. It blows me away it is so good. It really captures the race/ethnicity issues surrounding hair care and beauty parlors. One of the documentaries on my list of things to watch is Chris Rock's Good Hair.

Thank you! I'm glad you found the poem so compelling. I love mixing real-world issues with fantasy elements.
