Write lots of bad poetry, and be okay with it being on the crappy side. Sensitize yourself to language and words. One of
Re: commenting/participating, even just a quick 'I enjoyed reading this poem' type comment gives the person who posted feedback and a sense of hir audience. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the volume of posts to the community & unsure of your ability to contribute, maybe make a point of choosing one post a week & asking a follow-up question? "How did you all get started with writing (and, really, discussing) poetry?", e.g., is a wonderful topic for discussion.
I guess it comes down to purposeful practice and habit - the more you do it, the easier it gets and the more confident you'll feel in pulling out elements of a poem or a piece of meta and holding them up to the light for others to see.
