ETA: Pod Together 2014 participants, feel free to reuse this post!

If you would be interested in acting as a beta for one or more Pod Together 2013 poetry projects, read on!

If you would be interesting in acting as a cheerleader, check out the cheerleader signup post. And if you are interested in requesting beta and/or cheerleader services for your contribution to a Pod Together poetry project, the request support post is the place to go.

What is betaing / what are betas signing up to do?

There are two potential types of beta services you can sign up to provide: beta reading and beta listening. If you sign up for the former, you are offering your services through July 28th. If you sign up for the later, you are offering your services through August 15th.

A beta is someone who offers a second, or 'beta', perspective on works in progress. Unlike a cheerleader, who focuses solely on encouragement and enthusiasm, a beta provides some form of critical feedback. Depending on the beta and the creator(s) in question, this may be limited to technical feedback - i.e. typos and syntax errors (text), or gaps and repeats (audio) - or it may be more expansive, such as constructive criticism related to structure or pacing.

Further reading:

How you beta is your choice; just let your creator(s) know what your availability's going to look like (e.g., "I have a two-week turnaround time"; "I prefer if you sent me smaller chunks as you create and I'll get them back to you as soon as possible") and what methods work best for you (e-mail, chat, gdocs, etc.).

If you need to drop out just be sure that you let us know or that you let your creator(s) know directly. We will do our best to find a pinch-hitter to fill in.

Please note:

We cannot guarantee matching on fandom or style of poetry, so please only volunteer if you feel relatively flexible and you can offer general beta services.

On a first-come first-serve basis, if you see a creator you'd like to work with who has requested beta services, you can PM [personal profile] poetree_admin and let us know, and if they haven't already been matched we'll see if we can assign you to them. Alternately, the admins will work to match betas with those requesting their services on a case-by-case basis.

Are you willing to beta read for a poetry project?
If yes, what are your strengths/weaknesses as a beta reader? [E.g., "I'm great with catching typos but terrible with grammar" or "I'm awesome at big picture stuff like themes and pacing, but I don't have much prior experience with poetry", etc.]
If yes, are you willing to beta read for more than one project?

Are you willing to beta listen for a poetry project?
If yes, what are your strengths/weaknesses as a beta listener? [E.g., "I'm good at catching pauses and discrepancies from the text, but I can't help with troubleshooting sound quality stuff" or "I can describe what works well for me as a listener, but I don't tend to note down timestamps for specifics", etc.]
If yes, are you willing to beta listen for more than one project?

Would you like to be assigned a cheerleader yourself?

Are you willing to beta read for a poetry project? Yep!
If yes, what are your strengths/weaknesses as a beta reader? Fantastic at copy-editing. Might need to ask for explanations of what you're trying to do with theme, but I will pattern-spot the weirdest shit you didn't even know you'd put in there.
If yes, are you willing to beta read for more than one project? Mmmaybe. Please check in with me?

Are you willing to beta listen for a poetry project? No.

Would you like to be assigned a cheerleader yourself? No thank you :-)
