Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

I wrote a villanelle, 'Original Debt', that I was very pleased with this week, as well as a free-verse piece On Writing Papers that has proved popular.

You should be very pleased with both. They are both very good. Wish I could come say more, but my brain is in get ready for sleep mode.

A favorite from this past week's reading: Private and Profane by Marie Ponsot.

It reminds me of the lament for the makers someone in the comm posted not too long ago. Plus it manages to mention Djuna Barnes and John Donne in the same breath. :-)

Here is an excellent article on poetry in The Atlantic that I just came across. It discusses how poetry is still vital to education.

Also came across this lovely music video from Symphony of Science for their song "The Poetry of Reality (An Anthem for Science)."

"The Forging of Brisingamen" is now complete. This is science fiction based on Norse mythology.

The poem "tsukumogami" has been posted. Science fiction about Japanese aesthetics and folklore.

My first line bingo is done for [community profile] kink_bingo. Three of the five squares are poems in the Schrodinger's Heroes series. NSFW.

The Poetry Fishbowl Report for October 2-3, 2012 is now visible, with links to all the published poems.

There is crowdfunded poetry news from Thesilentpoet.

There will be a half-price poetry sale in my Steamsmith series from October 15-21.
