Picnic time!

Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

First I would like to apologize to the community. Both jjhunter and I have been less active in the community lately. Sadly both of us are graduate students approaching end of terms, and both of us have health issues. We do our best to keep things running as smoothly as possible, but there are times when there are inevitably going to be bumps in the road. We ask you for your patience and understanding as we try to smooth those bumps. We also thank you for your patience and understanding. So thank you. :)

I'd just like to say that I had an interesting discussion about cowboy poetry with my father, brother-in-law, and sister today. My sister and I sometimes have difficulty making conversation, so it was nice to have something neutral and mutually interesting to talk about. Also, my brother-in-law is black and he was interested in the African-American roots of cowboy poetry, as he'd never heard of it before. Win all around. Just sent my family an email with a copy of "No Rest for the Horse".
