alee_grrl: Sculpture made from recycled book pages depicting a tree growing from a book of poetry (poetree)

Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

Glad you liked the event so much! I had a lot of fun with it. :o)

The image you linked to is brilliant! I might have to print it out and share it at the Co-op -- that's right up our collective alley.

I really liked that too, and I wouldn't mind if it became a regular feature!

Huh - there's a thought. It certainly is a much better fit for a weekday than a full out 'Poem For Your Thoughts?' Day, and I like knowing how my circle's doing in general.

Not sure if I'd do it every week, but maybe every other Tuesday? That could work.

I also very much enjoyed the How Are You In Haiku event; it was lots of fun, and very calming for me to write in such a strict and careful format.

I enjoyed your participation, and found that responding to you helped me clarify some of my own thoughts that had been building up on the mindfulness front - thank you!

I just read that, and indirectly it lead me to the concept of found poetry, which I am off to try my hand at now.

Again, posted some poems, all concrit welcome.

Three poems here (including an etheree!), then a double etheree here (which deals with domestic violence, if you want to put a trigger warning on the link), and a butterfly cinquain here.

I have to say, this comm is doing WONDERS for my poetry production levels.

Should I mark any of them as entries for Challenge #3? (You're eligible to win that one this week; not eligible to win #4 since you won the reader's challenge last week, but you're free to do the latter too just for fun if you like.)

\o/ Enjoying comm stuff counts as something special & awesome in my book -- thank you for adding in your two cents!

I dare you to do both challenges this week - I think you'd enjoy them, and I'd be especially fascinated to see what you'd do with #4.

And Now, For Something Completely Different: your icon is win!tastic.

We shall see - I'm kind of enjoying lurking and commenting randomly, and the moving is eating my time. Then again, I would like to make some space for myself and poetry. We shall see.

I love Picard. He is my hero. Also, Patrick Stewart. I saw him in the Scottish Play in real life, it was the best birthday ever.

I would do many a silly thing for the chance to see Patrick Stewart perform live. What a fabulous memory to have!

As for the challenges, they might be quicker to do than you might think, but you know best what works for you time-wise et al. I'm enjoying your comments when you have the time to make them. :o)

Above & beyond fabulous! I love reading your explanations of why particular posts / poems speak to you, and will definitely take that into account when I revise the Featured Posts section in April. :o)

I adored [personal profile] ariestess posts, they were really interesting <3

I didn't participate a lot in the comm activities, but I hope I'll be able to write an Etheree for the weekly challenge :)

I just stumbled onto the concept of found poetry. I'm off to try my hand at it now, and I was wondering if anyone here has ever read or written found poetry before? What do you think of it as a concept?

It was! It was... very difficult to make the poem mean something different than the story I pulled it from, but I think I managed it in the end. I think that's the trickiest part of found poetry, conveying your own meaning.

My piece 'Scatological Philosophy' has elements of found poetry; I just posted the third draft here a few minutes ago.
