Brunching Sunday Picnic

Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

I know a dog who loves asparagus, so a dog stealing a tomato is not too surprising. :)

Miss Dog loves most veggie scraps (although she seems to prefer potting soil to kale), so yeah, it could have been a bird, but...

The last few weeks have been long and hard, but also beautiful and a wonderful gift. For an idea of what is going on, please see this tag on my blog.

I have been able to write one coherent poem during this time, My Father's Hands.

Passes around tea and pumpkin scones.

My access settings prevent me from publically cross-posting this, but: here is a poem I wrote for a friend a couple of weeks back.

A Sort of Love Poem
For the official record:
were my mind as liberal
with expression
as my heart is
with affection
I would proclaim
my fondness
as a cockerel
greets the sun:
deep chested
full throated
unabashed.

That is to say:
I would crow
my adoration
at such volume
and duration
that the neighbors
would, in frustration,
cite town ordinances
on keeping poultry
to quiet my enthusiasm.

I could easily crow my adoration for this poem. Such a wonderful use of bird imagery. This poem put a delighted grin on my face.

If there is something you wanted to share with the community or you want to start a discussion on some other topic of interest, you are more than welcome to do so here. We admins generally put out the handful of discussion threads to help kick-start ideas, but other threads are welcome as well.
