Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

This is the thread for non-personal, i.e. 'general' poetry news. Submission deadlines for poetry-related 'zines, news re: poets from outside the comm, and so on.

National Poetry Writing Month and Camp NaNoWriMo start on Tuesday. Unlike the traditional NaNoWriMo in November, which is focused strictly on writing a novel(la) of 50,000 words, Camp NaNoWriMo allows a word count goal between 10,000 and 100,000 and participants can choose to write short stories, nonfiction, etc., and, yes, poetry.

We still have some open slots available, so if you've been intrigued but hesitant to commit, please feel encouraged to go ahead and sign up — the admins are available to help you with brainstorming or refining your content.

Speaking of brainstorming, you can help! Comment on this thread with idea(s) related to the theme, and perhaps one or more of your fellow community members will be inspired to realize them for this upcoming week. You are also welcome to solicit last minute collaborators to realize an idea with you. :o)
