Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

I have written two poems since our last picnic. They are:

Merry Me
I would that I could take my bitterness
and put it in a gift wrapped box

and

Chicken Little
This is how you grow up
to love and hate trees:

Oh goodness, it has been a while since I posted a roundup of what I've been writing poetry-wise, hasn't it. 'Far and Fey'
they say your heart went fey to faeryland
where none can touch
or wound it wakeful [...]
came out of a whimsical poetry remix game I hosted back in November; [personal profile] luzula set it to music and made an awesome recording of it that I will never tire of listening to. I'm also quite pleased with my more recent poem 'A Sum of Awe (Your Awesome Is So Awesome That)' that I wrote for [personal profile] kaberett.

I've written a sonnish (like a sonnet, but) on my theme for the year, reclamation, with some thoughts in the comments about how I've (unconsciously!) interacted with structure while writing it.

Aww crap, hadn't looked at the spurs for this issue. Guess I'm trying to pull something together, then, given how thoroughly entangled the prompts are with my recurring themes of the year...

'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock' by T.S. Eliot adapted as a graphic novel (well, the first 9 pages, anyway) is not to be missed.
