Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

Ooooh, lovely. Would you like me to make a transcript for people who Don't Images?

I wrote a short poem called Fragility, and I wrote about talking about poetry: Poetry lets me speak intimately with strangers, to give only of myself what is given in return - and "only" and "wholly" are, after all, so very similar in shape. Small wonder, then, that stepping joyfully (so whole-hog, so whole-hearted) into intimate modes of communication makes intimacy of mind easier for me, and yet it is only now that I begin to realise it.

Content warning: Link 1 has graphic gore. Link 2 references depression.

I have been doing Bad Translator fiction prompts; I take a line of poetry or music, feed it through Bad Translator, and write a short ficlet based on the result. Today I used a prompt from my poem Bomb Proof. Bad Translator turned the lines: They call horses like that/"bomb proof" -/nothing phases them into They say that you do not need a bomb in a test phase. The result was a poem about depression inspiring a ficlet about a military practice bombing.
