Sunday Picnic with Fireworks

Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

We do not have anything scheduled for this next week. So this week would be a good one to go back and explore the pod_together icebreaker posts. A sign-up post for the next community themed week, Diction Dicty's Delight will go up this evening. jjhunter has a anon poll up exploring the topic.

The pod_together icebreakers have continued throughout this week. If you need some brainstorming help there is this fun post that encourages you to state your premise in haiku form. Need some ideas? Check out today's From the Archives post which provides examples of long form poetry from the poetree archive.

Have you ever been the performer for a pod_fic or other project? If you haven't, do you have questions for those who have? Ask your questions and offer your advice over at this post. Also check out the From the Archive post for links to previous comm posts on poetry as performance.

Don't forget that even if you are participating as a writer or performer you can still be part of the poetree pod_together experience by volunteering to be a beta reader or beta listener, or a cheerleader. We need more beta readers, beta listeners, and cheerleaders. So please consider signing up if you have time.

Close to being done with research, English translation of original canon tracked down & reviewed, and figured out roughly what poetry format I'm writing in (free-form, for better or worse).

Project 1: Zero-drafted and outlined. Partner seems happy with both, and kindly recorded a bit of the draft, about which I am still squeeing.

Project 2: Partner and I have two possible directions in which to go; sent off drafts/outlines today, but partner doesn't check the intertoobz very much on the weekend.

In the spirit of this article, you may find 'poetry confidence' a more useful metric for judging where you're at poetry-wise than 'poetry competence'. (The latter's a nebulous concept to begin with, and one that obscures that we all start somewhere. When it comes to building community around & intertwined & rooted in poetry, cultivating confidence raises competence in a much more fun, inclusive joyful way.)

Oh, I am happy with my poetry skills. It's the fanfic thing. I don't tend to read it, and have never written it. But my partners have assured me I can just write and it'll be fine.

I'm sure it will be! I'm rather fond of the I think fanfiction is literature and literature, for the most part, is fanfiction perspective myself.
