Sunday, every Sunday, let's have a community picnic. It's probably been a long week, and it's lovely to have a few minutes to sit back and relax and enjoy some good conversation in a less formal space. Feel free to bring something for the Picnic Basket - a poem you liked this week, a thought you had or something you experienced, or even something completely unrelated to poetry whatsoever that you just feel like sharing. Just take a moment to say hello, and maybe have a bite to eat; no one is going anywhere fast, and the shade promises some relief from the everyday heat. Let’s get to know each other a bit better, here under the branches of the poet’s tree.

I thought this was pretty neat: Gwendolyn Brooks Gets Her Own Day
Gwendolyn Brooks was a National Treasure whose rewards during her lifetime never matched her deserts. She was the first African American to win the Pulitzer, the first black woman to be Library of Congress Consultant Poet (which is what we called our American laureates before we actually named them Poet Laureate)...

The first annual BROOKSDAY was this Friday just past, i.e. June 7th.

I had to memorize that poem as part of my curriculum in school when I was little (I homeschooled using this "classical curriculum" which placed tons of emphasis on the importance of memorizing poems and saying them in front of various family members. I should be a genius by now. It was such a nice post, but I didn't listen to the music because I've had my own version lilting through my head for years and now that it's coming back I'm afraid to lose it.

I can understand not wanting to loose the music that you've created for it.

My poetry fishbowl went well this week, with a theme of "sleep and dreams." I don't have the followup post written yet but the poems are posted:
