An optimist squash:
gouged, gutted, set alight - the
pumpkin only smiles.

I don't want to steal
you, orange and live-wired in
to autumn's colors

as leaves lay dying they show
their truest selves underneath

but pumpkins show true
when most round and full of life
cut open, light shines through

"Bus" is slang for "kiss". ;-P

Our older folk claimed
kissing is in season when
gorse is in flower.

The trick is that gorse is almost always in flower, so if it's clement enough weather to be outside looking at gorse bushes then two people can choose to make a treat, hee!

I'm not proud to say:
I screamed when I saw the ghost
A hollow-eyed frown

His only response
Then: "Why do I frighten you?"
I had to think, said,

"I suppose you make
me contemplate my own death
hence my discomfort."

Saying it aloud
seemed rude; I blushed, but he laughed.
"My lady, I can

think of nothing so
terrifying as living.
Perhaps I should scream?"
