Schrodinger's Heroes: Taxicab Geometry
Numb3rs is a TV show about a pair of brothers, an FBI agent and a math professor, who combine their skills to solve crime. I'm focusing on the academics for this crossover.
Larry and Morgan
Had wanted their friends to meet
For quite a while.
But one thing after another came up
And when you spend your time
Craning into space
Squinting at light from billions of years ago,
Plans fall by the wayside.
In the end they have no choice.
The Teferact hums again,
And there they are.
Morgan is apologetic,
But a gracious host,
Even if Larry thinks there's something different about her
He can't quite put his finger on.
Ash and Amita hit it off right away,
And Amita spends most of her time
Teaching Ash important phrases in Tamil.
Things like "hello," "goodbye," "please," "thank you,"
"Yes, but we're eight hours apart at the moment,"
"I took a taxicab to see you
But it was very boring
And didn't pass through any other dimensions,"
"Even if their DNA is exactly the same
That doesn't mean they're clones,
They might just be from parallel universes,"
"That's between my spouse and I
And the dean of students
If they think our relationship
Violates the school policy,"
And, "I harbor doubts about the utility of this program,
Your claims to pass the Turing Test aside."
Charlie is a little offended
At being lumped in with the threats
That Alex is used to
Seeping out of the Teferact.
"Have you tried seeing
Whether you can stop this at the source?"
Alex isn't sure
Whether parallel copies of her are working on this,
But agrees that if she ever gets the Teferact under control,
It might be a good idea.
"I'm used to reacting to problems," he says,
"So preventing them is a nice change of pace."
It's not till he gets back
That Larry remembers,
The last time he saw Morgan, she was
Somewhat more of a she.
"Don't worry about it," says Megan.
"We were going to approximate..."
"Solutions," says Larry,
"To the two-body problem."
