Not to mention all the really dreadful angsty teenage poetry that so many of us seem to write (I know I did ;p) - which, even if (thankfully) never shown to anyone, matters. It's processing!
Or from the reader's end: I accidentally picked up a book of Audre Lorde's poetry once when looking for a novel with the same name... and then proceeded to sit there on the floor of the bookstore with it until someone I was with told me it was time to get moving. I never did find the novel, but part of A Litany for Survival now lives in the back of my brain - to remind me, when I start thinking it would be easier to give up and keep my mouth shut, that it is better to speak.
